Glaziers, glass workers, window cleaners and sign painters are trained through a four year apprenticeship program that includes class room and on -the-job-training.
 
Classroom sessions are divided into one week blocks per quarter. 
Apprentices learn all phases of the glass industry, including glass installation, blueprint reading, metal products, sealants, closers, latches, locks, aluminum doors and window systems for commercial and residential buildings. About 20 to 25 applicants are accepted each year. Journeymen continue training at special sessions throughout the year. Th ese include fi rst aid and safety classes. 
Members volunteer their time for social service projects, including Habitat for Humanity.  
 
The 500 members of Glaziers 1165 serve the entire state of Indiana and parts of Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky. 
Membership benefits ts include competitive wages, a health and welfare plan that includes eye and dental care, and a pension plan. Th e national association is the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, AFL- CIO, CLC.
